| Breaking News |  | Sunday, March 6th, 1983: California Trades Baylor to Oakland for Gross
Officials for the California Angels confirmed that they have traded 26-year old center fielder Pedro Guerrero and 33-year old left fielder Don Baylor to the Oakland Athletics. In return, the Angels will receive 31-year old third baseman Wayne Gross, 32-year old shortstop Tim Foli, 32-year old second baseman Larry Milbourne and 25-year old closer Anthony Smith.
Lifetime Baylor has hit for a .264 average and totaled 1661 hits, 245 home runs and 905 RBIs.
In 973 career games, Gross has put up a .219 average, collected 115 doubles, 14 triples, 98 home runs, driven in 356 runs and scored 363 times. |
 | Sunday, March 6th, 1983: Dodgers-Athletics Deal: Garvey for Atherton
The rumor has been going on for a while now, but today it was made official. The Los Angeles Dodgers sent 34-year old first baseman Steve Garvey to the Oakland Athletics for 24-year old reliever Keith Atherton.
Officials from both teams seem to be pleased with the deal.
During his career Garvey has chalked up 2002 hits and a .295 average with 221 home runs and 990 RBIs.
During his career Atherton has made 45 relief appearances and converted 9 saves. His overall record stands at 9-and-17 with a 5.01 ERA. |
