| Breaking News |  | 1984 Top Batter Selected Monday, April 30th, 1984: Ángelo Cahill from Buffalo was in a class by himself this year. Not only did he put up one of the most exciting offensive barrages of the year, but the 17-year-old also snared the coveted Cruickshank MVP.
He put up a .406 average, 54 hits, 17 doubles, no triples, 6 home runs and 37 RBIs during the 1984 campaign.
The annual SBWA awards banquet is this weekend. All of the major award winners will be there to be honored for their outstanding achievements this past season. |  | Super Season, Peters Wins Cruickshank MVP Monday, April 30th, 1984: Today Chicago's Justin Peters was named the TXPA League Cruickshank MVP winner for 1984. He punished TXPAL hurlers hard all season long, collecting 58 hits in 124 at-bats.
With a .468 batting average, 19 doubles, 1 triple, 16 home runs, 73 RBIs and 42 runs scored, he was the top votegetter.
This weekend the SION Baseball Writers Association will present the trophy to Peters for being the TXPAL's top-rated batter. He will receive it at the group's annual awards dinner. |  | Top CMHS Pitcher for 1984 Named Sunday, April 29th, 1984: Jesús Madrid of Orlando excelled on the mound in 1984 with a 5-0 record and was named the High School League Cruickshank Cy Young winner.
The Thunder star put on quite a show with a 3.36 ERA in 9 starts with 87 strikeouts in 59 innings.
