Monday, June 10th, 1985: 25-year-old Brian Sance made a few Jacksonville headlines during this past week as the rookie center fielder proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Southern League officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.
He cracked 9 hits in 15 at-bats to put up a .600 average. Sance collected 1 home run, 6 RBIs and scored 4 runs.
This season in 40 games, Sance has hit at a .367 clip with 58 hits, 6 home runs, 33 RBIs and 35 runs scored. |
 | Cervantes Wins EL Best Player Award
Monday, June 10th, 1985: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Eastern League, but last week Rafael Cervantes of the Reading Phillies reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week.
Cervantes rocked opposing pitching for a .474 average (9-19), 3 home runs and 8 RBIs to come away with the award.
Cervantes is hitting .436 so far this season with 31 RBIs and 34 runs scored. He has 48 hits including 4 home runs, 20 walks and .507 OBP. |

Saturday, June 8th, 1985: Scott Cannon went the distance at Barrington Grounds today. The Jacksonville hurler yielded 1 hit, walked 0 and had 4 strikeouts in the Sun 16-0 triumph over the Springfield Cardinals.
