The 26-year-old first baseman hit .430 collecting 104 hits, 13 doubles, 2 triples, 12 home runs and 76 RBIs. He also scored 41 runs and posted a .489 on-base percentage.
For being named the PL's #1 batter Cavell will be honored at the SION Baseball Writers awards banquet this weekend. |  | 1984 AL #1 Hitter is Burlington's Gilbert Sunday, October 7th, 1984: His solid numbers speak for themselves. That's why Keith Gilbert of the Burlington Indians was named the Appalachian League Outstanding Hitter Award in 1984.
He completed this award-winning season with a .355 batting average, 86 hits, 5 home runs, 23 RBIs, .434 OBP and 63 runs scored.
This weekend the SION Baseball Writers Association will present the trophy to Gilbert for being the AL's top-rated batter. He will receive it at the SBWA's annual awards dinner. | | | | |
